Groundhog Day
A Devotional

In the Bible, Galatians 5:25 says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Groundhog Day is a 1993 science fiction-comedy film starring Bill Murray, who plays Phil Connors, an arrogant Pittsburgh TV weatherman. During an assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, he finds himself caught in a time loop, repeating Groundhog Day over and over and over again.    It’s a funny, delightful movie: and it’s one of those that makes you think about life and how precious each day is.

And, like Bill Murray in the movie, we who are working our steps can get stuck in a loop, where we are not moving forward in our recovery.   We need to be patient, first looking to The Lord to break the cycle.  “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

We need to take our “stuck situation” to Jesus in prayer.  He will guide us and direct us—and give us peace about the situation.  Invariably, He tells us to “call your sponsor” or “talk to your accountability partner”.     God works through people; it’s why were gathered here tonight. We need each other!

My hope is that Celebrate Recovery helps us think about our lives and how precious each day is—one day at a time.
