Sunday, Go to Meetin'

“That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,
And tell of all Your wondrous works.
Lord, I have loved the habitation of Your house,
And the place where Your glory dwells (Psalm 26:7-8 NKJV).”

I pause. I consider the deep emotion of the Psalmist. In common vernacular, David was like a kid in a candy store. Where should he start? Should he raise his voice in thanksgiving, share a testimony? He did not dread going to the LORD’s house; he delighted in it! The glory of God dwelled there.

I rarely attended church in my formative years. At age 18, I became a Christ follower; it was then that I became a regular ‘church goer.’ One of my first recollections of that time was the warmth of worshipers.

Husbands or beaus leaned back against church pews with an arm around their favorite girl. Children formed a line at the altar to face the congregation and sing of the Savior. As God’s family, they loved the LORD and their brothers and sisters in Christ.

If it was a Sunday, the faithful looked forward to goin’ to meetin.’

“My foot stands in an even place;
In the congregations I will bless the Lord (Psalm 26:12 NKJV).”

The LORD blessed them with eternal life, an abundant life; in turn, they blessed Him through lives of consistent worship and praise.

“…not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:25 NKJV).”
