Lord If You Are Willing

While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him. Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. Luke 5:12-17 NIV

Hear again, Luke, the physician, shares a healing performed by our Lord. Leprosy is more than a disease of the skin. It can cause damage to nerves and also muscle weakness. It can lead to deformities and blindness. No wonder lepers were kept isolated.

This leper was truly humble, not directly asking Jesus to heal him, but saying that if He willed to He could cleanse him. The man’s humility and faith in Christ led to Christ healing him.

We are all sinners. Sin can be compared to leprosy. Both can lead to deterioration. Just as this man wanted healing from his leprosy, we who belong to Christ want healing from our sins. This can only be found through Jesus Christ.

When we approach our Lord in prayer, how often do we say “Lord, if you are willing?” We have requests we bring to Him. Remember, Christ already knows what we truly need. Should we not approach our Lord in prayer, humble enough to say “If you are willing”? The Lord loves a humble and contrite heart. The Lord knows EVERYTHING we need. He always provides what is needed. We must truly remember this truth. When we realize this truth we can let go of anxiety. We can open our heart to feel the immense love, joy, and peace which come from our relationship with Jesus Christ. Remember that part of the Lord’s Prayer says “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Those who seek God’s will shall have answered prayers.

Imbed these words in your heart, mind, and soul….”Lord, if you are willing.” AMEN!!
