 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Luke 1:26-38 NIV

Just as Gabriel had been sent to announce to Zechariah about the forthcoming preparer of the way for the Lord, he was always sent to a maiden girl to announce to her that she would bear the Son of God. To say that Mary had found favor with God is certainly an understatement. Imagine, being the mother of the Son of God!! Have you ever wondered what all Mary felt during her pregnancy carrying the Savior of the human race within her womb? All the thoughts and emotions this young woman must have felt during those nine months!

Mary was humble, acknowledging that she was the Lord’s servant, and asked that it be done as the angel had said.

We, the followers of Christ today are also favored. We have been blessed abundantly by our Lord. He has saved us of our sinful life, redeemed us, and granted us eternal life, a life to be spent with the Father and the Son forever. We are indwelled by the Holy Trinity, and have the peace of Christ within us. We have been commissioned by Him to go out to the world and preach the Good News! We are His workers in the field, reaping the harvest.



Notice Gabriel's words "no word of God will ever fail." This is such a powerful statement full of truth. When God speaks with us we can rest assured that what He says will happen. It will not fail to occur.

We must humbly acknowledge that we are the Lord’s servants. We are His vessels. We must allow Him to use us to accomplish the will of the Heavenly Father.  We must ask Him to provide us with all we need to carry out His work, and to protect us from the evil one. May the kingdom of God come!!
