Taking Care of Business

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. John 19:25-27 NIV

Even when Jesus was nailed to the cross, Jesus was taking care of business. He saw His mother standing near the cross, by the disciple John. Jesus knew that His mother would need to be cared for, so he put her in the care of the disciple John. How amazing that our Lord could have been thinking about this matter as He was dying.

In chapter 23 of Luke’s gospel, while hanging on the cross, Jesus says “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” While dying, Jesus asks the heavenly Father to forgive those who are crucifying Him! No forgiveness which we can seek compares to that which Jesus prayed for on behalf of those who took His life.

Everything about the life of Jesus Christ, as recorded in Holy Scripture is amazing. No human will ever come close to being the epitome of humanity that our Savior was in dwelling among us as a man.

Our Lord was focused on one thing, carrying out the mission given to Him by the Heavenly Father. That included the actions He took and the words which He uttered. Jesus perfectly completed all the work the Father had given to Him, and because of that fact we are so abundantly blessed.

So, can we carry out the mission our Lord provides for each of us to do? If we give ourselves totally to Him, letting the Holy Trinity indwell us, then yes, we will carry out the work given to each of us!
