Stepping into 2017

As you read this article, be reminded that you are in the process of stepping out of 2016 and into 2017. You may have transitioned from celebrating the birth of Christ to celebrating the beginning of a new year. May I present to you the thought of “celebrating life and expectancy” as you leave the past, anticipate the future, but occupy the present?

Too often we look at the past year as something that’s over and done with no connection to the present or the future. The truth be told, we should learn from past mistakes, make the best of every living moment, and look forward to being a blessing to someone in each day to come. I always ask, “What is it the Almighty God would like for me to do or accomplish today, this week, this month, this year?”

Stepping into 2017 should be more than an occasion to say “Happy New Year” or make resolutions. It should be embracing and welcoming a year of thanksgiving - “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18, KJV). It should be a time of happiness and rejoicing – “This is the day which the Lord has made; we shall rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24, KJV).

Let’s consider stepping into 2017 with purpose – not just parties, resolutions, and what we can get for ourselves. Let’s determine and commit to making life better for someone. Let’s make a point to be less selfish and more giving, less judgmental and more forgiving, less angry and more loving. Welcome to 2017!!
