“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:9-13 NIV

These words that Jesus spoke to the disciples in the upper room during the Last Supper were not meant for them alone. These words are intended for all mankind. Unfortunately not all of mankind turn to Jesus.

We are to love one another. We are to love one another just as Christ has loved us. Christ’s love is unconditional, sacrificial, everlasting, ever forgiving. It has no boundaries. Such is our love to be toward all of mankind, not just to our family and friends and God. It is meant to be for everyone.

What would our world be like if we did as Jesus says here? We cannot possibly imagine how it would be. What is important to realize here is that everyone has the ability to love. Those who do not love choose not to do so. We all at times are unloving and unkind. So, what do we do then? Do we throw our hands up in the air and say it is useless to try because we will repeat unloving acts? No! We can return to our Savior and ask for forgiveness. We can ask Christ to help us again to be loving as He is loving. If only we all knew that we have the capability to love, and with Christ in our heart to love as He loves.

Let us each love as Jesus loves. Our world will then become a place beyond our wildest imagination!

Lord Jesus, thank you for the love You have for us. You teach us the power which lies within the love You have for us, and the love that we must have for one another. Guide us as we seek to share Your love with a world which is in much need of that love. Forgive us when we fail to be loving, and then direct us back on the path which leads to eternal love, the love which You and the Heavenly Father have for all of us. AMEN!!
