 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NIV

To be a true disciple of Jesus, we must follow His teaching. To follow His teaching, we must know it. We know Christ teaching through reading the Holy Bible. We need to read the Bible daily, as it is the spiritual nourishment which we need. To follow Christ’s teaching, we must believe in Him, in who He is, and all that He has taught us about the Heavenly Father, and Himself (the Son of God). Unless the Trinity indwells an individual, how can they be a true believer?

There is a cost to being a disciple of Jesus. This cost is not monetary. The cost is dying to ourselves, to our earthly desires, and giving ourselves totally to the Lord. The cost is great, but the reward is far greater than the cost. Through Christ we are provided with salvation. Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ. Our sins are forgiven through the blood Christ shed for us on the cross. Through His resurrection we who believe are assured of our resurrection to eternal life.

Being a disciple of Christ reveals to us the truth, the truth that really sets one free. We are free from slavery to sin. We are free from slavery to the desires of this earth. We are led by Christ to do that which advances the kingdom of God.

Life as a disciple of Christ does not free us from temptation. However, Christ is there to pick us up if we fall. We need only to come to Him with a repentant heart, seeking His forgiveness, with a desire to do as He wishes.

Lord, thank you for releasing us from the chains which bound us. We are free, and your humble servants. Direct us on the narrow path which leads us to eternal life with the Heavenly Father, and You, our Lord and Savior. Thank you for all your blessings upon us! AMEN!!
