ABSOLUTELY THE BIBLES TWO ABSOLUTES

There is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance ... a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace ... a time to keep silence and a time to speak." [Eccl. 3:1-8]

You have probably heard of the old cliché, "there is good and bad news." Fast forward to our 21th Century by considering two positive spin-offs of this idiom, the exception being no bad news here, as both ends of this revised cliché are absolutely good news. Nonetheless, before we continue, we must look at what we mean by the word "Absolutely". "’Absolutely’ is defined as totally and completely, or with certainty." (your dictionary.com) This definition certainly sums up our country's present demographic social statistics. So here they are, absolutely our two most important absolutes.

First, we are ABSOLUTELY in the last days, as we know it to be. (2 Timothy 3:1-9, 13) (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

America is now facing a battle. One between darkness and light, between heaven and hell, between God and Satan (Ephesians 6:11-12). This increased battle is a sure sign that Jesus is coming soon! (1 Cor 15:52) Even in these troubling times, God is surely calling prophetically to His remnant who understand these times. It is a call to prayer and repentance (1 Chronicles 12:32). It is a call for action (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Yes, judgment is certainly rolling toward America, as one need only read the latest newspaper, tune in the national TV, surf the internet, or just simply talk to the next door neighbor across the back yard fence. In fact, it is downright intriguing, as you parallel the Bible with today's news (Ezekiel 38 and 39) and (Matthew 24). What a time to be alive!

Just look around at the prophecy coming to pass, unusual weather patterns causing undue hardships, the struggling economy, blatant civil lawlessness and civil disobedience, government over-reach out of control, politicians stretching the truth to win favor, wars and rumors of wars in far off unfriendly countries. In other words, America is beginning to see mass corruption and a breakdown of law and tradition.

Yes, we are living in dangerous days when men’s hearts are failing them for fear. The Bible tells us to be like the wise virgins, not the foolish ones, and to prepare for His coming (Matthew 5:1-13). The Bible also says we can know the season and times (Matthew 24:4-28), even if we know neither the day nor the hour (Matthew 24:36) (Mark 13:32). We are in the last days. Look up, for our redemption draws near!

And secondly, God is ABSOLUTELY in control of our universe. When I look around at all the ungodly evil transpiring in and around our country, I tend to get depressed from a secular view point. Often times, it all just seems hopeless. However, I need only pick up and read God's word, as a "pick me up" for in 2 Timothy 3:16 we see that all, not just part of scripture, is actually God's inspired word and this includes all phases of our lives (Lamentations 3:37-38).

Yes, Gods attributes are absolute. Included are the absolutes of His Sovereignty, of having supreme authority, control, and power over all that has happened, is happening, and will happen in the future in all times across all history (2 Chronicles 20:6), and His providence, which is His constant care for and His absolute rule over all His creation for His own glory and the good of His people (Proverbs 16:9).

Theologian J.I. Packer defines providence as “the unceasing activity of the Creator whereby, in overflowing bounty and goodwill, He upholds His creatures in ordered existence, guides and governs all events, circumstances, and free acts of angels and men, and directs everything to its appointed goal, for His own glory.” (Colossians 1:16-17)

You see, no one can act outside of God’s sovereign will or against it. Centuries ago, St. Augustine said, “Nothing, therefore, happens unless the Omnipotent wills it to happen. He either permits it to happen, or He brings it about Himself.”

Notice the absolutes in the statements of these two great men of God.

I have to admit, however, one of my problems with the sovereignty of God is that it frequently does not appear that God is in control of the circumstances of our lives. Case in point, The United States of America. One needs only look around this great country of ours to experience the results of unjust and wicked people in high places, doing things contrary to God's principles. We both feel and see the consequences of these people’s mistakes and failures.

Nonetheless, this evil maneuvering is simply God's sovereignty in action. It is the ability of God to so arrange the varying human actions in the fulfillment of His purpose (Isaiah 40:23) that makes His sovereignty marvelous and yet mysterious. (Daniel 2:19-23)

Just as God’s rule is invincible, so it is incomprehensible. It remains a mystery. His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9). His judgments are unsearchable, and His paths are beyond tracing out (Romans 11:33).

So, in conclusion, we should glory on both of the "ABSOLUTE" fronts, and keep looking up for His blessed return (1 Cor. 15:51-54) (1 Thess. 1:13-18), and by praying " Lord Come Quickly" (Revelation 22:20).

Yes, America is on the verge of a rude awakening from Almighty God on both of the absolute fronts; His prophecy and His sovereignty. Can we believers afford to be silent? No! The Scriptures tell us to speak out! (Isaiah 62:1) We must speak out in our homes, our workplaces, our churches, our governments, and in our elections.

We know from scripture that Satan's evil activities will intensify (1 Timothy 4:1-5). Mankind will hold to a form of godliness, having a resemblance of true faith without its spiritual dynamics. The human race will result in having ungodly attributes such as being lovers of self and lovers of money, being boastful, being arrogant, being disobedient, being ungrateful, being unholy, being unloving, being irreconcilable, being malicious gossips, having no self control, having a brutal disposition, being haters of good, being recklessly treacherous and conceited, and being lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God ( 2 Timothy 3:1-9,13) .

We Christians must not let this evil continue its control over our lives and our country. We must all band together in the freedom of our election process. Please mark your calendar for November 8, 2016, and be sure to vote your Biblical principles.
