1 Samuel 1: 19-20

Then they arose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD, and returned again to their house in Ramah And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the LORD."

Loss of memory can be an inconvenience. People end up with amnesia after a blow to the head or a terrible shock. The sufferer, if conscious does not enjoy this experience at all, especially if told by those around him that he has a life that he does not remember in the very least! For family and friends, this becomes a real frustration but there is a glimmer of hope when it is not diagnosed or determined medically as permanent. The more severe form of memory loss is dementia.

Dementia is a general term for a degeneration in mental ability, also known as senility, it is severe enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia.

It is quite sad and frustrating for family members of a person suffering from memory loss which is not temporary but degenerative and having to deal daily with the effects of this disease. They are hopeless in their responses and how to deal emotionally with the sufferer.

Health care workers on the other hand who constantly have interactions with patients suffering from one category of dementia or another, have become quite `used to it`, in the sense that they know the characteristic manifestations of such patients and how to professionally deal with it.

The most painful part of this illness is not being able to reMEMBER a family MEMBER that has been a part of one´s life for so many years, sharing many lovely memorable times.

What can be done to ease the tension for the one who has been emotionally ´ostracized´?

Luke 23:

And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Asking to be remembered, prodding the memory of the memory-loss-sufferer that stimulates remembrance of events and loved-ones can oftentimes be an uphill and daunting task. Mediacal professionals urge family members to talk about loving memories and events very often, acting normal.

God freely remembers us, loving us even in our sinfulness, as long as we are ready to forsake sin and surrender all to Him; he is willing to forgive and ´forget´.

Genesis 9: 14-16

"It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. ”When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."

Hebrews 2:6

But one has testified somewhere, saying, "WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
