I stare at the faded black and white photo, now over forty years old. It’s all I have of my father - the man who gave me life and then wanted no part of it. It hurts, sometimes, but I’m so thankful that, in the lifelong absence of my earthly father’s love, I have the love of another Father that will never leave me. He said so - “… nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God...” (Romans 8:39, NKJV)

Love is lost so often by so many and we question and cry over what could have been, what should have been. But through the loss of one love, it is possible to gain another. For when a father turns his back, we can run into the arms of God, our Heavenly Father, that will always be open. When a love is not returned, we can feel the unending devotion of a Savior who was willing to die for us.

And when, perhaps, love is twisted and hurtful, selfish and confusing, we can rest in the knowledge that we are loved with a pure love by the One who holds our heart, catches our tears and every day breathes eternal hope into our soul. “I have loved you with an everlasting love…” (Jeremiah 31:3, NKJV)

It is when we are so sorely disappointed by people in this life that we can be so sweetly delighted by the One who knows us best and loves us most. “For God so loved…” (John 3:16, NKJV)

In losing love, we can find love…and love all the greater.

I love this!!! My granddaughter, age 6 is going through the loss of her Father. He walked away 2 years ago and hasn't spoken to her. All she remembers of him is he played video games and "was mean to my Mommy" Do you mind if i share this with my daughter? Thank you so much for writing this, it is beautiful
