In sweet and sour, marriage is honourable; in ups and downs, marriage is honourable; in loving memories and in saddening realities, marriage is honourable; in fact, in all, marriage is and remains honourable.

God reminds us the principle He established in the first marriage: the honour of marriage derives from Him who instituted it. It does not depend on times and their characteristic faltering. It does not rest on the action, person and character of the couple (Hebrews 13:4).

Affection may rise and fall. Love may dive into the ocean of confusion. No device has been invented to make human heart beat at the same rate throughout life. Yes, the sun of affection does rise after it falls, but only through a night time of bleak darkness punctuated by little stars of mercy.

Now you understand why Adam did not hack Eve to death, hate her or send her packing after the fall. He rather called her woman, mother of all living. Only after Adam did that we read: 'Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them' (Genesis 3:21), restoring their marriage in unity of honour after disparity in punishment. It was the bleak night of their marriage and Adam saw it as one.

No, you won't go ahead to defile the bed of your marriage because your spouse did the ridiculous. No, your spouse is never worth the inestimable value of your chastity. No, it's not about the wedding oath. Your purity in marriage is your purest devotion to God, an act of worship mirroring to the world the incorruptibility of the Bride of Christ, the Church, despite the worldliness at her gate.

Your purity in marriage is a sacrifice to God, and it's honourable. You wouldn't be hurting your cheating spouse by letting it go. Even when marriage becomes a mess, it remains honourable. God has bet His Word on your resolve to stand through it all. You can ask Job the afflicted. If you do not see beyond the mess of your situation, you may not be able to see the mercies of God in your dark night. May you find in your first love for God through Christ Jesus that grace you need to stand through it all.
