WHEN GOD LAUGHED

This is a very interesting prophecy that certainly parallels today's world, today's governments, and today's populace. In this (Psalm 2:1-12) we have a prophetic glimpse of God's sovereign power. So simply take this Psalm, and match it with today's current events, today's news media reporting, today's government rule, and today's popular citizenry opinion. 

For starters, we see in (Psalm 2:1) David ask the same question many of us are nowasking, "why are the nations "in an uproar, and the people inventing such hopeless, and unproductive dreams "?

Why do we find in (Psalm 2:2), that the rulers and kings are taking a stand against the Lord and His people?  And yes, we are still asking this same question of today's government. Simply put, they are being possessed by the evils of Satan himself (Ephesians 6:11-12).  However, in (Psalm 2:3) revenge is the word of the day.

So what do you suppose our Sovereign God is doing as he looks upon today's evil, perpetrated throughout today's universe?   He is laughing. In (Psalm 2:4) we see an unusual description, that of our Lord laughing.

Why is He laughing?  I can think of many reasons. Is it because the populace feels safe in this evil generation of folly? Is it because of the “me, myself and I” mindset of the populace?  Is it because of our current evil political ideology? Is it because of the ungodly doctrines preached in today's churches? Or could it be that He knows what the elite don't know (Proverbs 30:12), that His punishments and judgments are soon coming (Psalm 37:13)?  It's a little of all of the above, I fear (Matthew 16:4).

Conversely, God could also be amused due to the coming events which the world cannot comprehend or understand; the events we call prophecy. The events, mentioned in Psalm 2 will take place after the rapture, or the catching away in the air, of all the saints (1 Cor 15:1-55) (1 Thess 4:13-18) (Revelation 4:1). These events in Psalm 2 include the coming tribulation period (Psalm 2:5). The coming thousand-year reign of Christ which will be a period of perfect peace, and Christ's coronation giving Him authority to rule the earth in righteousness (Psalm 2:6-9). 

And finally, in (Psalm 2:10-12), God exhorts the world rulers to submit to His Son, Jesus Christ, to avoid His wrath.  No wonder God laughed in (Psalm 2:4). Thus, little wonder that opposition is to Him laughably pathetic.

In other words, as seen in Psalm 2, the decree of God is His eternal purpose according to the council of His own will whereby, for His own glory, He hath foreordained whatsoever comes to pass.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, will change God's sovereignty.  He has prior knowledge of all things, actual and possible,  including  the course of this world's past, current,  and future events.  And He will deliver retribution and the deserved punishment where He may. He will put kings in power and take power away from kings. (Daniel 2:19-23). Yes, this includes America's leadership as well as all the other nations.   

You see, only God Himself is infinite (1 Kings 8:27), as He has always been here, and will always be here (Revelation 1:4). He is all powerful (Revelation 19:6).  He knows everything (Matthew 11:2).   He is everywhere at once (Psalm 139:7-12). And He is our supreme ruler, which gives Him sovereignty over all His creation (Ephesians 1:9-10).

In summary, we see in Psalm 2 that wicked nations were plotting to overthrow God’s Anointed, thus ultimately opposing the Almighty Himself. But He sits in the heavens, calm and unthreatened. Man’s boldest efforts to oppose such awesome power is ludicrous. The Almighty doesn’t even rise from His throne; He just laughs in derision.

So it behooves all of God's people to take (2 Chronicles 7:14) to heart. It is high time that we, His people, humble ourselves, pray and seek God's face so that He may hear us, and heal our land.  What has this scripture passage in 2 Chronicles, have to do with Psalm Two, you may ask. Basically, we as a nation, and as a people, don't want to fall victim to God's laughter or His wrath (Proverbs 1:26).

Our prayer, " Dear Heavenly Father, please hear our cry and give America godly leadership in our government, in our churches, and in our lives, and bring down revival, on all our land.  May we come humbly to Your Throne of Grace. May we repent of our national sins, and of our individual sins. And may You hear our cry and heal our land. We ask this in the name of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Yes, God does surely in fact laugh. Why not? We were created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27), which means that although we don’t look like God, we are like God in other ways. God created us to be able to do things that animals can’t do. For example, think, write, read, play games, and laugh! I believe that all of the special things we can do as humans reflect a part of who God is. After all, the Bible tells us that God does have emotions. The Bible tells us about times when God was sad (during Noah’s day) and when God is happy (when we obey His Word). So yes, God can laugh with joy.

The Bible also tells us about times when God laughs in a different way at foolish people because they think they can do things against Him. They think they can sin, reject God, and ignore His Word. God laughs at these wicked people (Psalm 2:4) not to be mean, but because He knows that in the end He is the only true and perfect God and He will have the last say—and He judges wickedness.
