When Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a controversial ban on adoptions to the United States, innocent little children were sadly caught in the middle. American families hoping to adopt Russian children have had their dreams crushed. It is believed this action was Russia's retaliation for human rights sanctions passed by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Obama. Critics, including the U.S. State Department, say the adoption ban is playing politics with the lives of children.
Doing missionary work in the poorest sections of Mexico in 2004, my daughter and I visited a big orphanage. We met some of the most beautiful, precious children. Most were dropped off as babies, the mother's never coming back for them. I'll never forget their faces. They just lit up the world. It didn't take much to make them happy. They were so appreciative of love and attention and they'd give anything to have a real family. Someone to love and care for them. I remember one little girl with big brown eyes and long long dark hair. She had come to every meeting during the week. I had on a leather bracelet that said JESUS LOVES ME. To this day, I recall her smile when I put that bracelet on her arm. Such a simple thing was so special to her.
I saw a story today of a young girl from Russia adopted by a family here in America. She had no legs but overcame incredible odds having won a medal in the Olympics. That's just one success story among thousands. To stop these adoptions just breaks my heart; Politics should not cause a child to be denied a chance at a good life filled with love and opportunity. At least, this is my humble opinion.
The lyrics and also music we wrote to help orphan children across the world. I pray for the families wanting to adopt, some already having went through the lengthy process to bring a child here to America to love and nurture; to provide an education. Many are special needs children. These children were rejected by others, but accepted with open arms and compassionate hearts of a family in the USA.
It's time to take a stand for the sake of a child.
For The Sake Of The Children
Vs. 1) Moved from place to place
Little boys and little girls
Tears roll down their face
Orphan of the world
They close their eyes at night
And pray to God above
Ever searching for the light
That fills a heart with love
(Refrain)
For the sake of the children
Who feel so all alone
Wanting someone just to love them
Make them feel like they belong
So many precious children
Still waiting for a home
Open up your heart for the sake of the children
Vs. 2) They've no security
As if no one really cares
They need a family
Have so much joy to share
A sadness in their souls
Yet a sparkle in their smile
It's time to take a stand
For the sake of a child
(Repeat Refrain)
For the sake of the children
Who feel so all alone
Wanting someone just to love them
Make them feel like they belong
So many precious children
Still waiting for a home
Open up your heart for the sake of the children
