In my college days, I used to take the train to school. On a Monday morning, the rush hour scene at my station redefines the meaning of "hellish" - one could literally start at the bottom of the multi-level stairs and let yourself be pushed by the crowd to the top, with matching elbows, unwelcome groping and all. Just the usual treatment for everybody.

One particular Monday I was waiting for my turn in front of the line, at one of the door opening zones, along with the multitude of people who were similarly in a rush. I didn't know why on that particular day, but as the train rounded the final bend to go into the station, people behind me suddenly had the bright idea to push hard.... sending me teetering on the brink of the platform with the train fast approaching.

Just as I was certain that I would fall, a strong hand yanked my collar from behind and pulled me upright- the train missing me by a mere inch or two... Needless to say I kept looking for my savior there, but there was no one who admitted it. I supposed at the time that maybe they just don't want my death on their hands...

I remembered it because another incident happened to me several years later, when I was driving home from a sleepless, grueling 36 hour duty from the hospital.. I remembered doing 60 kph on an empty highway at 7 PM.... when suddenly a voice spoke to me "wake up!" I opened my eyes just in time to swerve violently away from a garbage truck in front of me...and avoiding what would most likely be certain death at that speed.

Something eerie is something mysterious that sends chills up one's spine.. and while those, among with a few other incidents from my past were certainly mysterious, when I remember them I find myself experiencing a different sort of chill altogether.. that which comes from knowing that God is most certainly not done with me yet... and it is both a humbling and somewhat frightening experience at the same time. It is filling me with a sense of pressure to live well, to continue the Christian race despite the odds, and thankfulness for the ever-present hand of God..
