When I lowly child
All alone and suffering
To me He consoled and reached for me
“Help me,” I cried out, when drowning in a lake
His hand He reached out
And delivered my life from utter peril
When all people had failed me
Abused was I, in my family's sight
Hard knocked, was I
Hated by those closest to me
Though in God's heart I was loved
When at last, I asked the Lord of Glory
The One who loved me deeply
To enter my heart and become real to me
At last, what joy filled my heart,
Christ, my Savior, My Lord now, forever
Instead of being hated and despised
Now, I am known as Beloved
All because of that precious Beacon of Hope
The Light of the world: Jesus !
