When they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.” - Acts 5: 27-32

In the first century, there were men who saw Jesus and His gospel as a threat to their rule over the people. Today, we have the same opposition. In our time, our Lord and His Word are under fierce attack from every side. God has been removed from our schools, our government, and the majority of our homes. We can clearly see the effects of this turning away from the Lord. Society is plunging into darkness, those in power are changing our laws, and pressure on Christians to conform to the world is increasing.

Now more than ever, we must take a stand for our faith and our God. We must uphold the truths in His Word. We must remain faithful to the Lord Jesus who purchased us with His blood when He hung on that tree.

Let us live in righteousness and holiness, and be a bright light in the midst of darkness. Let us boldly proclaim our Father’s Word, and share the good news that Jesus Christ has come to ransom sinners. Those in bondage need the hope that is in Christ, and Christ bids us to go into the world and tell them of this great hope.

In all things, and no matter what opposition, we must obey God rather than men.
