Surgeons plunged into precious flesh and bone,
inviting the elements to finger my damaged cord.
As distant stars gazed in awe upon that strand,
woven, as they, of one magnificent Creation.
Angels looked askance at the sight of moral men,
tinkering with heaven’s divine design.
With all their might and human limitation,
fallen creatures seeking to restore Eden’s perfection.
How they labored to save my ailing body,
subject to the Curse’s nasty spell.
While I, submerged beneath a raging sea of anesthetic,
knew nothing save a final harsh signature of sutures.
The effort that drew me so near eternity’s door,
must for now suffice.
Yet man’s finest bindings are doomed to fail,
his strongest cords shall fray beyond repair.
For one and all must enter the clouded corridor,
tethering this world to a better one beyond.
Through a passage so often made in grief,
in affliction’s bitter company.
Yet somehow all the pains of human flesh,
were tucked within the Savior’s sacred wounds.
Through some divinely calculated equation,
the sorrow infusing every falling tear,
Flowed within Christ’s hallowed blood,
down a harsh and splintered stake,
That held him fast betwixt earth and heaven—
a suspended world intense with pain and love.
If by His wounds we are healed,
then our wounds are never ours alone.
For we are stitched into divine design,
within a warp and weft of holy love.
The plumbless depths of matchless Love
transfigure every pain and sorry death,
Into celebrations wild and forever triumphant—
far beyond earth’s every vicious blow.
