For a book of the Bible that doesn’t mention God,  the book of Esther is  awesomely rich and ripe with spiritual meaning and symbolism.  Hegai the eunuch, for example,  is charged as custodian of the young virgins in the harem of King Ahasuerus to help prepare them to be presented to the king.  After Vashti had been dismissed as queen for her insubordination,  the process has begun to select a new queen who would be a better example to the subjects of the kingdom, especially the women.  Hegai is a wonderful representative of the Holy Spirit, since he is responsible for the administration of the beauty treatments and preparations that the virgins must undergo, six months with oil of myrrh and six months will perfumes and cosmetics which speak of the balance of bitter and sweet, life and death.  (Esther chapter 2, v12)  Esther represents the bride of Christ being prepared in this hour for the return of her heavenly bridegroom Jesus.  Esther, after all, is the only one of the young virgins who does not select her own garments and jewelry to meet the king but prudently left that to the discreet suggestions of Hegai who knew the king’s tastes better than she did.  So does the bride of Christ leave the sovereign choices of her character preparation and “beauty treatments” to the leading and sensitivity of the Holy Spirit.

Later when the wicked Haman is exposed in his plot against Esther’s uncle Moredecai and the Jews to annihilate them,  it is discovered that he erected a gallows upon which to hang Mordecai.  The king knowing of Mordecai’s innocence and bravery is infuriated and orders that Haman be hung on his own gallows that he had constructed outside his own home for another, namely, Mordecai. The wicked Haman represents Satan who had a “gallows” constructed for Jesus Christ in instigating his torture and death on the cross.  Little did the devil know like Haman  that he was erecting the very instrument of his own destruction, for Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil through suffering, death on thee cross and resurrection.! (chapter 7, v10)   Beyond that,  King Ahasuerus actually awards the house and property of Haman to Esther after elevating Mordecai to Haman’s vacated position.  The bride of Christ and Jesus himself will ransom many souls that Satan thinks he owns and bring them into God’s holy happy familily in this last hour of the redemptive drama.   And how privileged we are as believers to be allowed to be a part of it!  “The Jews had light and gladness,  joy and honor. …….Then many of the people of the land became Jews because fear of the Jews fell upon them.”  (Esther chapter 8, end) This is what is going to happen for the Christians who are the spiritual inward Jews of this day, as Christ’ s return draws nearer and nearer,  and the fullness of the Gentiles comes in (Romans 11, v25)  as prophesied, and more and more natural Jews become “completed” Jews accepting Yeshua as their Messiah.
