Was reading my bible this morning and what started as just reading the Word, turned into a study on "Blessings in Obedience". As I read Deuteronomy 28. highlighting as I went. I took notes and wrote down my thoughts. And while I read the whole chapter... my notes filled up very quickly just on the first verse. Deut. 28:1 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God" - NKJV The word that stood out to me was "observe". I thought " what do you mean Lord that I should observe your commandments. My mind went right away to the main meaning of the word that I'm sure we all think of. "WATCH/ NOTICE". Lord you want me to carefully notice your commandments? It was then that I looked up the meaning of the word; which surprised me to find the second meaning of: " fulfill or comply with". And that made so much more sense. So I reread that verse with this second definition of observe and it made much more sense. Leaving me to ask my self ....... Are we diligently listening to the voice of the Lord? To fulfill ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS. We know the main 10 commandments. But what about the others... forgiveness? Let your light shine "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) Love and pray for your enemies "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 “For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?" (Matthew 5:44–46) Forgive Seven times Seventy "Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'" (Matthew 18:21–22). Love one another "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another." (John 13:34). "This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you." (John 15:12). "This I command you, that you love one another." (John 15:17). These were just a couple things that stood out to me when I reread over the other commandments. Are we letting our light shine? when people see us do they see Jesus? The change that he made in us, the Joy he gives us? Do they want to know him more because of how we represent him? Do we pray for our enemies? do we bless those who do us wrong or try to work against us? Have we truly forgiven all who have hurt us? Wronged us? Forgiving them as God forgiven us? Who can we forgive? Loving one another goes in all of these a bit. But do we realize its a commandment from God? to love as God loves us.
