His Strength in Our Weakness

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”  (2 Corinthians 12:9a / KJV) 

In a fiction novel, a little girl explains the emotional status of one of the other characters.  At first glance, the character’s behavior could have been described as one of weakness.  This little girl, however, believes the character’s reactions may be the result of “having been strong for too long.” 

Poor job performance, lack of sufficient parenting skills, lack of confidence in making important decisions – we’ve all felt inadequate on more than one occasion.  There is no age restriction.  Children who aren’t as well equipped in academic or athletic performance as their classmates can experience those same struggles.  In Biblical times, even the disciples felt weak.  Paul felt weak.  We’ve all been there. 

Could it be that our weakness stems from having been strong for too long?  Regardless of the nature of our inadequacy, Jesus said that His grace is sufficient for each of us.  He is enough.  If you feel weak, rejoice!  True strength is only found in Jesus! 

Lord, we claim this promise.  You are our strength.  When others look at us, let them see Your strength instead of our meager attempts to overcome our weakness.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
