“If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?” a teacher asked a little boy. “Home,” he replied. Not a bad answer. After all, where we “hang our hat” is where most of our lives transform.
Interestingly, Jesus mentions home after a miraculous healing of a paralyzed man. In Matthew 9, after forgiving the man’s sin and healing his paralysis, Jesus instructs the man to go home. This newly amble man could have gone anywhere; a mountaintop, a soft grassy field, or to a cool stream running through his toes. Yet, he obeyed his Savior and he went home.
At home, perhaps the man meditated on the words of Jesus, on the freedom of forgiveness, and on God’s love. The new feelings of leg and feet muscles and joints joyfully overwhelmed his life, and yet his first adventurous journey was home. Perhaps for the first time, he felt knees bearing on the floor as he humbly kneeled and prayed, thanking God.
Home is a special place to God. King David knew this, and pleased God by giving the ark a home.
What a good day to get on our knees on our own floor at home and thank God for this place of refuge, rest, and worship called home. What a good day to daily commit to making our home a place of refuge, rest, and worship, as we await on our eternal home being prepared by Jesus Christ right now.
If you think about it, maybe our dream vacation really is home, where we’re still and focused on God.
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. Psalm 62:1 NIV
