‘You’re in time out!’

In recent years, parents, teachers and childcare workers have used time out as a form of discipline. It’s really not new. To those old enough to recall, it’s only a variation of standing in a corner while looking at a blank wall.

I’m really not sure how effective it is as a deterrent to improper behavior.

‘I’m in time out.’

It is a deterrent to sin and self-centeredness.

God wants me to take time out for prayer, communion and for His word. When I am disciplined and diligent, I make time out habitual. I’m not staring at a blank wall. Rather, I’m beholding the redeemer.

Take nourishment. “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope (Romans 15:4 NKJ).”

Make prayer a priority. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJ).”
