When scripture exhorts us to sing a new song unto the Lord (psalm 33 v3, psalm 40 v3 among other places) , it doesn’t necessarily always mean a song that has never been sung by anyone ever before. It can also mean a song that is new TO US. I am reminded also that the 144,000 and the heavenly harpists in Revelations Chapter 5 and Chapter 14 were singing a new song When we learn and sing such songs unto our God on a regular basis we are allowing the Holy Spirit to bring a freshness and a diversity to our praise and worship, and, hence, to our personal relationships with the living God. This helps us maintain a newness in our spiritual lives, being renewed daily, from hour to hour, even moment to moment in the knowledge of our living but also our loving God.
