To stay ahead in today’s fast moving world, you need
to adapt the quality called excellence. One of the
greatest quality any man or woman will show in order
to be marked out for success is EXCELLENCE. Thus
without excellence you will never become great in
life. Daniel grew up in a strange land but was
honoured because he had an excellent spirit, (Daniel
5:12) “Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge
and understanding, and dissolving of doubts, were
found in the same Daniel, whom the king named
Belteshazzer…” It will interest you to know that the
spirit of excellence in Daniel was not in his ability
to interpret dreams because a man can have the gift to
interpret dreams and still be foolish and foolish
people don’t rise. There are lots of gifted believers
in the church who have both spiritual and natural gift
but may never rise because they lack the spirit of
excellence. Excellence is not the gift of the spirit;
neither would prayer nor fasting bring it.

Excellence is a grade of optimum quality. In life,
there is the good, the better and the best and there
are grades. The optimum is in the class of best. The
spirit of excellence is therefore the spirit that
inspires a man to aim for the optimum.

To programme yourself for excellence involves your
making quality decisions. Any man who has this quality
called excellence develops himself into it. Excellence
is a rare quality because we live in mediocre society.
To operate in excellence, you must add something extra
to the normal. Excellence will not allow you stay in a
level of life for too long. The average life is a
comfortable place, for instance, a young man enrolls
for an examination with the intention to just pass.
That mindset is what slants him towards the average
life. To be average, you don’t need to fight so hard.
The temptation is often between setting for an average
life or an excellence one. In the pursuit of
excellence, you must lose certain things.

With all the ability God has given to the new
creature. He did not give us excellence. We are to
develop our taste and appetite for excellence. Men who
have crossed the excellence line don’t appreciate men
with the average mentality. What you aim in life is
very important because it will determine your reality.
Most believers aim at being comfortable. You must have
the appetite to be, have and live in the best. The
appetite alone will drive you to doing the best.
Excellence is simply putting everything you have in
what you are to do. Approach everything God has placed
in your hands as an assignment you must fulfill.
Half-heartedness is what robs you off the spirit of
excellence. Men with excellence spirit give their best
in everything they do. If you don’t approach life with
the attitude of doing or putting the best, nothing
will work. God does not commit precious things to men
who have no regard for them. You must give commitment
to what has been placed to your hands. People have
been promoted in life, on their job and even in the
ministry, just because they do things differently.
Even companies prefer to employ men who will carry out
their job without supervision. Look for ways to do
whatever your hands finds to do, the best way. Most
prayers are not answered because it is not heart felt.
James 5:16b “the effectual fervent prayer of a
righteous man availeth much”. Excellence is a
promoter; irrespective of where you are in life,
excellence will bring you to lime light.
