DAY THREE
An Indescribable Vision


DAs the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord, and when I saw it, I fell upon my face and I heard a voice of one that spoke.( Ezekiel 1:28)

In verses four through 28, Ezekiel describes a vision that he received which accompanied his anointing for the ministry . We note as he describes what he saw, he prefaces his description with the words that are metaphorical in content. What we mean by that? We note various phrases he uses, words like; like as, likeness of.These are words he uses to try to explain in human terms what he saw as he viewed this heavenly vision. John, in writing the book of Revelation, used the same phrases for there is nothing in the heavens that can be fully described in human terms because they are so magnificent.

The vision that Ezekiel saw was in four stages. It begins with the whirlwind, the great cloud, fire, and brightness. This was the first stage.

The second stage was the appearance of four living creatures each of them having four wings and four faces.

The third stage was the appearance of wheels within wheels that moved in harmony with each other and with the previous parts of the vision.

Finally, a lightness and likeness of the firmament appeared which served as a backdrop for the rest of the vision and a voice was heard coming from a throne which Ezekiel describes as the likeness of the glory of God.

Some expositors may take great pains to try to describe each part of this vision, which is many, and in so doing removes the significance of the vision itself. God does not give us an explanation of all the details. Instead before u,s we have a picture of the great glory of God that accompanied Ezekiel's call.

In considering this, the most important part is Ezekiel's response to the vision. How else can one respond when faced with the blazing glory of God before him? And we are told that when he saw it, he fell on his face and as he did so he heard the voice of one who spoke.

It is difficult to know if such visions usually accompany God's call to a man. We see many instances, even in the New Testament, of definite clear-cut visitations by God calling His men to serve. When we do receive such visitations, it is a confirmation of our call to some meaningful ministry.
