PRAISE AND WORSHIP, AN EXAMPLE

"Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! (Psalm 150:1-6)                   

Music has always seemed  to play a vital role in the practice of religion. In ancient civilizations it has been found that the Pharaonic rites included music, seen on the tombs of many pharaohs and noblemen. In other religions, such as Judaism and Christianity, people use music as an integral part in the performance of their worship and religious celebrations.

There are two different ways to view this combination of cultural influences: What is the role of music in religion? And - what is the position of religion towards music?  And down through the ages, music has evolved from the traditional hymns, to the Southern Gospel, to the contemporary, to the Praise and Worship formats. One can almost always find a music style to their liking. What about you, what is your preference ?   

In today's church atmosphere, a lot is being said about the new "Praise and Worship" music. Not to discount the old hymns of the faith,  as all spiritual messages have a place in God's heart, as well as ours. Holders of the faith, however, appear to have now  given way to "Praise and Worship", as this  new worship experience has most recently come to the forefront.
