Philippians 3:13-14—“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Today is a time of new opportunities to help us make smarter choices which will render positive results. Obviously, we do not have a magical ability to go back in time to rectify past mistakes, but fortunately God blessed us with the occurrence of second chances to make things right from this point onward.

The devil is busy trying to destroy our hope by attempting to keep us in a state of guilt derived from previous mistakes. However it is up to us to recognize his lies and to utilize the powerful gift of The Holy Spirit to seek truth and forgiveness which will empower us with renewed strength granted by our Heavenly Father.

Hebrews 10:15-17~“And the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us, for after saying, 16 “This is the covenant that I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws on their hearts and I will inscribe them on their minds,” 17 then he says, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no longer.”

I often heard it said that we should not dwell on past regrets; however it wasn’t until the last few years or so that I learn not to dwell on the past, but instead developed a faithful spirit which is no longer held prisoner to guilt. My eyes and heart are now open to the idea that all of my previous mistakes born from negative experiences were necessary to strengthen my character and acquire a new found appreciation for lessons learned.

God has a way of saving us from the pitfalls of our own misguided actions by teaching us patience and how to trust in the plans He set forth along the path of our lifelong journey. It is our responsibility to call upon God for a clearer understanding and ability to rise above a web of guilt and shame weaved by the devil’s treacheries.

Psalm 40:1-3—“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.”

Living a guilt-ridden existence is exactly what the devil wants so that we are fooled into lingering in our transgressions. But, God’s Word teaches us that once we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we become free from a life of sin and death. Once we are cleansed, our spirit of rejuvenation begins so that we no longer are bound to a life of unnecessary guilt because God provided us with an ability to refrain from unholy desires of our flesh.

Romans 8:1 -2~“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”

The positive side of feeling guilty is that it produces repentance which brings about forgiveness which carries freedom. It is imperative that we understand when God forgives our sins He expects us to forgive ourselves as well so that we do not hold ourselves in bondage to Satan’s wickedness. If we maintain steadfast faith in Christ He will grace each of us with a new slate to jump-start a renewed awareness of divine mercy to carry us through whatever journey unfolds next.

Luke 24:45-47~Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

It is my profound hope for all reading this devotional to be blessed by the truth and knowledge herein. I pray for deliverance to befall upon all of whom are held captive to their past regrets so they may learn to look ahead being transformed by the spirit of Jesus Christ.

The divine inspiration obtained from studying scripture is what ultimately led me to freely drink from a fountain of wisdom and inner peace. It is part of my chosen purpose to encourage each of you to seek the glory of the perfected Word of God to enhance your everyday lives with a true measure of insight and love intended for all through the everlasting forgiving grace of Christ.
