     Although, we do not see Jesus’ extraordinary miracles being regularly performed today as they were two-thousand years ago during his earthly ministry, we have the written documents of the four evangelists, which is sufficient for our faith. That is to say, there is a special blessing for those who although were not eyewitnesses to his miracles then, yet nonetheless trust in him. The apostle Thomas, after thrusting his fingers into Jesus’ post-resurrection hands and side believed, to which Jesus responded, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).
     In addition, Jesus’ miracles show us the love and concern of God for the sufferings of people, which serve as an example for us, in that we too, should be interested in alleviating the suffering of others.  On different occasions, the gospels record Jesus being moved or having compassion resulting in action taken for the good of others such as in his healings (Matt. 14:14) and the miracles of the five loaves and two fish (Mark 6:31-34). It is not enough to simply feel compassion for someone or to bless someone’s needs with hollow words, as the book of James reminds us, but to do what we can to meet peoples’ needs.
     Moreover, Jesus’ miracles point us to the certain hope of our future resurrection in the midst of our suffering, pain, and misery in this life. Jesus’ miracle of raising himself from the dead (John 2:19, Matthew 28:7) and thus being able to raise our bodies on the last day (John 6:39) should form in us an optimistic attitude for the age to come and provide us comfort and strength in spite of the ailments and physical trials we will face in this age. By the miracle of the resurrection, Christians are enabled to minister to fellow Christians who are in the grip of life-threatening sickness and disease by the promise that they too will rise one day in their own glorified bodies which will never be subject to death and decay again.  
     Jesus’ miracles also help us to discern between divine miracles and lying signs and wonders. Satan, as a deceptive imitator, was quick to duplicate God’s signs in Egypt through Pharaoh’s sorcerers (Ex. 7:11, 22, 8:7, 18), we are warned of signs and wonders taking place through false Christs and false prophets in the gospels (Matt.24:24), as well as the coming of the lawless one (2 Thess. 2:9) whose aim will be to deceive. In examining the characteristics and purposes of Jesus’ miracles, we can be on guard against deception.
     Finally, Jesus’ miracles point to the fact that God is still regualry performing the miracle of regeneration today. While people became the recipients of being fed, healed, and raised through the miracles of Jesus, they nevertheless later became hungry, got sick, and eventually died. However, the miracle of the new birth, which Jesus continues to perform every day across our world, is the granting of eternal life, which can neither be diminished, disrupted, dissolved, or discontinued.
