Prophecy

In reading Exodus again I noticed that not only was Moses the Deliverer of Israel a descendant of the priestly tribe of Levi, but he married into the family of Jethro, who was himself a Midianite priest. So in a sense Moses was by destiny a priest twice over, representing and pleading in intercession for the children of Israel as he did before Yahweh, along with his high priestly brother Aaron.
Consider too the priestly calling of Jesus and his disciples whom Moses foreshadowed and of whom he prophesied. Jesus and his hungry followers were criticised for eating grain in the fields on the Sabbath. (Luke 12) Jesus responded by reminding his critics that David and his needy men had eaten the sacred loaves in the House of God, loaves that only priests were permitted to eat. He also pointed out that priests work in the Temple at their sacred duties on the Sabbath. He was implying that his disciples were themselves to be a new priesthood, as Peter would later write in one of his epistles, “a royal priesthood.” (1 Peter 2 v9.)
Finally it is fascinating to remember that when, led by the nameless servant with gifts (the Holy Spirit) Rebecca (a type of Christ’s bride to be) first in the distance glimpsed Isaac (a type of Christ the heavenly bridegroom) he was out meditating (or praying) in the field. This is suggestive of Jesus Christ’s present ministry of intercession that we as His bride to be, glimpse and share by faith at the right hand of the Father. Rebecca immediately covered her face in humility with a veil. We too are separated by a freshly veil from seeing the full beauty and splendor of our Beloved’s face. But like Rebecca we are approaching our Bridegroom and the veil is about to fall away as that marriage relationship consummates!
