Destiny Awaits, Reach Out And Grab It!

We were created for relationships and long ago many enjoyed the company of each other. Then things changed. Part of that change found the family structure consistently being redefined. Many parents began working long hours and not getting to spend much time with their families. Husbands were no longer able to spend quality time with their wives and fathers, their children. This worsens when one or both parents have to travel abroad for work.

There are many consequences evolving from this new way of life. A consequence of this new way of living is ‘exhaustion’ which is the root of many issues within our families today. When exhaustion sets in, people get frustrated, angry and resentful. Resentment grows deeper and anger intensifies. The anger can then turn to hatred which can end in long-term separation or even murder. Death comes in a variety of ways. It is not just physically burying a body. Although the family setting changes when a parent dies, it can also change with much more damaging effects when the death of a marriage or long-term relationship occurs. That leaves us with the redefining of ‘family’.

Family is no longer a husband and wife training up their children. There is what is known as ‘blended families’—bringing a step parent with his or her child/ren into the relationship. There are other ways of creating a family environment such as within the setting of what is known as single parenting; adoptive or foster care; homes where the grandparents are the sole carers; homes where the children are being cared for by other relatives or friends of the family on a short or long-term basis as well as care homes. The list is ever changing.

However, regardless of the setting, there is a need for that ‘parental bonding’. A child’s need goes way beyond food, drink, clothing and shelter. They have emotional, mental and spiritual needs also. Often, those are the areas of neglect when a marriage breaks down or parents simply do not have the time to give to their children. There are some things only parents can give. No matter how loving and caring a grandparent or other carers are, they cannot give those children what only their parents were designed to give.

A family struggles to survive in some areas of parenting with two supportive parents.  Therefore, it is inevitable that there will be great challenges to overcome when the two leaders in that family aren’t supporting each other in bringing up those children.

Yes, we were created for relationship so when our relationships are damaged, we must spend time repairing the damage and encouraging cohesion as the way forward. We were designed and destined for greatness but the lack of cohesion has been hindering the growth that will allow success. What can you do this year to encourage that unity among family members?

Each of us belong to a family and within that family, we have a responsibility to maintain the unity that will help to develop and maintain those relationships. Exercise the power within you to bring about that change and fulfil your purpose by walking in your destiny.

As we do our part in fostering relationships we honour the One who created us. We serve Him by serving each other. Love one another (John 15:12 & 17). See also 1 John 3:11-24, ‘This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another…’

"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort that God has given us" (2 Corinthians 1:4, NIV).

A blessed and prosperous 2016 to you my friends!
God bless you and keep you as you walk in your destiny.
