“For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our trespasses, sending them away, letting them go completely and forever]; and You are abundant in mercy and loving-kindness to all those who call upon you.” Psalm 86:5 AMP

Though each of us strives to live a life that is pleasing to God daily in thought, word, or deed, we engage in some form of sin. Can you imagine what God’s Hall of Records would look like if file folders of our wrongdoings were being stored? Though God does not keep tabs of our faults, some of us - without a Help Wanted Ad being posted - certify ourselves as Executive Sin Record Keepers, whose duties include creating sin-lists, categorizing sin into good vs. bad, small vs. big, and forgivable vs. unforgivable, and mailing reminder letters to all parties involved.

Upon receipt of those “letters” and after careful review, a tendency to feel bound, guilty, and unworthy of God’s love, compassion, or even His calling on our lives may occur. Creating boundary lines by staying away from church and isolating ourselves from others, OR continuing in sin out of a belief that the initial sin was so big that God no longer wants us and is angry with us, OR walking in fear, depression, and/or anger, keep us from being able to fulfill God’s plan for our lives and, are all common traps we fall into when gripped by sin and the unwillingness to forgive. Yet notice all the above actions are self or people-imposed.

If we look closely at this scripture, God’s way of handling forgiveness looks nothing like ours. God is perfect and He is good. Because He created us, He knows just when, with whom, and how our trespasses will occur. He simply stands ready and patiently waiting for us to confess, repent, and move on with His plan. Moreover God lets go completely and forever. Unlike us, He is not in the business of keeping sin-files nor does He send reminder letters of how sinful we really are or how sinful we used to be in the past. He lets go of it ALL and FORGETS about it.

Because we are imperfect people living in an imperfect world, sin will inevitably play a role in our lives. If we are true followers of Christ, we must learn to forgive ourselves, forgive those who may have hurt or harmed us, receive God’s forgiveness, and walk in His love. Like Him, we must learn to let the situation, person, or event go completely and forever. In addition, we must make a conscious effort and commitment to spending time in God’s presence seeking His direction, asking forgiveness, and receiving His abundant mercy and loving-kindness.

Do not allow yourself, others, or the enemy to keep you bound by a record of your sin. Let it go completely and forever so that you can experience God's abundant loving-kindness, mercy, and favor!
