The New Living Translation of the Bible has a revealing way of rendering the prayer in the 4th verse of Psalm 141: “Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness. ”  Sometimes we find ourselves tainted by evil without our having deliberately chosen for it to be so.  Rather we have allowed ourselves to be almost unconsciously carried in that direction by the cultural or behavioral currents swirling around us without offering sufficient resistance.  Make no mistake, if we are not actively participating in a righteous, biblical alternative strategy in our daily lives we will find ourselves adrift and thus “taking part in acts of wickedness” even if that wickedness only takes the form of worry or doubt, or discouragement and the routine things we happen to be doing externally that are accompanying those kinds of states of mind.  All the while God is only a thought away, we have only to consciously acknowledge and include Him to escape the drift.  “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3, v6)
