INTERCESSION @ THE ALTAR 1

To be an intercessor is not for the fainthearted. It is a lifestyle that takes dedication and sacrifice few are
really ready to make. It takes obedience and faith to a much higher level.

Yet intercessors are most needed at this time. As we enter a time of turmoil the Church of Christ need intercessors desperately, men and women who are willing to sacrifice everything for the Kingdom of Christ.

Thus the task of an intercessor is neither for the purpose of leading nor supporting but for fighting and guiding. In reality the intercessor is the ‘eyes” and “warrior” into one. The Holy Spirit will show the intercessor the danger what is lurking around the corner and then the intercessor will with the Holy
Spirit’s help to fight against the danger through prayer.

In this way the intercessor is a prayer warrior at work. This task takes every ounce of perseverance and patience. All are not called for this task. There are certain character and personality traits that the intercessor needs to have in order to be effective in the intercessory ministry.

It is not to say though that this task is for the “high level” believer, all that it implies is that you are chosen by God to be in intercessor. In this way the intercessor are insured that he or she will get empowered by God through the Holy Spirit to be an effective instrument in the hands of God.

What important is though is to understand that God’s hand alone are free to work in the world only if God’s people are praying. Thus to be an intercessor is to bring the world in contact with heaven. There are no other way miracles and solutions can come to our troubled world unless God’s people pray.


What then are the character traits of the intercessor? The intercessor is mostly your silent personality who chooses to work beyond the scenes, the loner who can be on their own with long periods of time and who do not need the attention of the world the whole time. They are secure in their own identity
and their faith in Christ is based on a solid foundation.

Usually they are not the busy bees but the peaceful ones who choose to be in God’s presence and who need the time of silence desperately. There is nothing wrong in being this kind peaceful person.

Just as busy, noisy and doing people are needed in God’s kingdom the peaceful person are also needed. They cannot work without each other. The peaceful persons make it possible for busy doing people to accomplish what they need to accomplish. In this way the kingdom of heaven are being expanded in harmony.

The intercessor has a humbleness that comes from a true pure heart. And this characteristic makes out the true makeup of a true intercessor. God can only work through a pure heart and it is the intercessors with their pure hearts that get their prayers answered.

For the Lord intercessors are not merely at the end of the church hierarchy, for Him intercessors are the life blood that makes His Church tick. Let me put it this way: Without intercessors all churches around the world can as well close their doors.

It is not church programs nor human achievements that make churches grow or change people’s lives, it is the humble intercessors that spend hours on their knees, sacrificing their own needs in order for God’s Kingdom to expand.
