Shooting baskets with my seven year old grandson we started at the seven foot basket but eventually made our way to the ten foot basket at the other end of the court. We had spent enough time at the child’s end that the standard ten foot rim seemed extremely high and out of reach. But little by little we acclimated (I was amazed at the strength and accuracy of my grandson at both ends of the court, and would have still been amazed even if he were not my grandson) until we began making baskets as easily as we had at the other end, and we forgot how high it was.  I remember being similarly precocious at his age.
   If I am in the habit of always taking the easy way, I may be shocked and dismayed at first when met with even a little difficulty, like seeing a basket suddenly three feet higher.   Or if I havent been accustomed to acting my age, I may be daunted initially by situations that arise that require some maturity on my part in the way I respond. But once I “settle in” and accept the challenge or the adversity I am often pleasantly surprised by what rises from within me to meet the occasion. Like the apostle Paul, we can do all things in Christ who strengthens us!
