The Victory Of The Underdogs

I was reading comments on an online political news recently. One commentator expressed his doubts about an opposition he supports winning an election in the near future. To that, a supporter of the ruling party congratulated him because finaly he was coming to terms with the fact that the opposition were perennial losers. The ruling party supporter invited the opposition supporter to join the winning team. This challenge must have been informed by the cliché, "If you can't beat them, join them." I felt that there was something wrong with this attitude. So I commented: "If everyone joins the winner, who will the winner win against?"

I also felt that it's not unthinkable for the opposition underdogs to win. Their winning will be too sweet that it will be celebrated at two levels. In level one, they will be celebrating the win itself; in level two they will be celebrating the loss of the proud who taunted everybody else who was not in their party, always calling them losers.

In Christianity, we will not celebrate the loss of our opposers for that matter, but the weight of the win will overwhelm us with the sweetness of a victory. The fierce the battle, the sweeter the victory.

Many believers have been intimidated by the democracy of godlessness and the increasing secularization of our societies. Believers face attacks from two fronts:

1. Temptatations:
There are many ways by which those who enjoy the majority rule, enjoy themselves. The appeal to join them in order to partake of the indulgences of influence and power are overwhelming. It doesn't matter how appealing the temptations are, this is the rule: In temptation, resist; don't give in.

2. Trials: 
When the enemy fails to get you on their side, they will persecute you. In other words, they will make life difficult. It doesn't matter how difficult it is, the Bible tells us to resist even unto death (2 Corinthians 4:11). Christ, in His wisdom, exhorts us with the paradox to 'lose in order to win'. We may look underdogs and 'perennial losers' but our victory is assured if we don't lose hope. This is the rule: In trials, persist, don't give up.

Yes, the underdogs are going to win! Praise the Lord. Jesus demonstrated that even when it looked like the game was over for Him (after being crucified and buried), He came back to life. What else could His opponent do?

"Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life" (Revelation 2:10).
