In Whose Hand

   Very near to the center of the Bible according to total number of verses, there is a verse (v. 109) in the 119 th psalm (the psalm known as the “Mr. Everest of psalms” by the way ) that reads “My life is continually in my hand,” (NKJ ) and in the margin there is a notation with this alternate rendering: “continually in danger.”  One might reason that if in fact our lives are in our own hands they are indeed in danger!  But the psalmist insists that he does not forget God’s law which we presume leads him to pray in verse 117, “Hold me up, and I shall be safe, and I shall observe your statutes continually.”
When it is God holding us up and not we ourselves we need not worry about the outcome.  His hold on us is secure and eternal, and resting in His strength we progress with the psalmist not to merely “remember” His word but to find His energy there to “observe” and  to perform it.
May we be consciously returning and committing ourselves into God’s mighty hand as we navigate through these darkening days.
