The Prophesies Concerning Messiah, continued

The Jewish Old Testament, a series of God-inspired books written over a period of approximately 1,000 years, contain over 300 references to the coming Messiah, or Savior. These references were very specific as to time, place, and circumstances, and they all were fulfilled in the person of Jesus of Nazareth!

These prophecies about Christ were all penned at least 450 years before Jesus lived. There are 61 major Messianic prophecies, and in coming posts I want to cover several of them. I will lean heavily on Josh McDowell's "Evidence That Demands A Verdict," Vol. 1.

The first predictive prophecy comes from Genesis 3:15. "And I (God) will put enmity between you (Satan) and the woman (Eve and succeeding generations), and between your seed and her seed; He (the coming Messiah, Jesus) shall bruise you on the head (fatal), and you shall bruise Him on the heel."

Eve's seed is singular, and a reference to one person, Jesus, who is begotten through Eve's generations. Mary, the wife of Joseph. Satan's seed is talked about by the prophet Daniel and in the book of Revelation as the man of perdition, also the Antichrist. In the end times this evil man opposes all that is good and raises up a kingdom of his own. He will eventually be destroyed by Jesus and His heavenly armies in the final battle of Armageddon.

That Satan will bruise Christ's heel points to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Satan's blow was not deadly in the sense that it could not keep Christ in the grave. He came out of the grave on the 3rd day by the power of God, and that victory points to ultimate victory over evil for God and His people forever!

Another amazing facet of this prophecy is the reference to Eve's seed. The generational "seed" from that time forth was always passed through the man, the husband. Find out next time why the lineage of Jesus had to come through Eve, and not Adam, and through Mary, and not Joseph. Until we meet again, God bless you all…mike
