Hear the Word of God, and Do it


Lk 8:21
And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

The desire from Christ for relationship are those who will hear His Word and desire to do it. These are the people Jesus want for mother and brothers.

This is because we are of one household and must of necessity be instructed and nurtured together with the same Word.

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Mt 17:5

Therefore, Hear ...akouo..gk, meaning ...give audience, ...let it come to the ears, ...hearken, ...be noised, ...be reported, ...understand, the Word. That is, Jesus is saying give audience to the Word, understand and do it.

Apostle James says, We are doers ...poietes..gk, meaning ...performer, ...doer, ...to practise, ...to execute, ...do, ...keep.

The Word ...logos..gk, meaning ...sayings of God, ...utterance, ...word, ...preaching, ...treatise, ...reasons, are what we are to hear always.

In other words, we perform or practise the sayings of Jesus.

If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. Jn 13:17

As we continue to hear the Word, we are building up our Faith because faith comes by hearing.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17

Jesus is telling us that as actors or actresses learn their lines and perform it, so we are to practice the Word.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Jas 1:22

By the Word, Jesus is building himself into us and through it we are made clean and free. Our life is a relationship with the Word, Jesus and this overflows to our sphere of contact.

But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Lk 8:15

Doers of the Word are unshakable in the face of stiff opposition because they are built in and fortified by the Word put in practise.

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Mt 12:50

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1 Jn 3:22
