I've been waiting a long time now, it's true,
But God has led me to say simple prayers for you.
I'm praying for the kind of man you'll be--
The kind of man who loves God and me
And our future children and our whole family.
As I wait, at times God drops me clues
As He leads me to say simple prayers for you.

I imagine you as being a man full of charm
Who tells me he loves me and holds me in his arms,
As a man whose spiritual leadership ability is strong
And who will teach our children right from wrong.
When I'm with you, I'll know that's where I belong.
Right now waiting is all I can do,
But for now, I'll say simple prayers for you.

As I wait for you to come into my life
And the pastor to pronounce us husband and wife,
I pray that in our faith we will mature
And that our hearts and actions will be pure.
I know that our marriage and love will endure.
Everything I have just said is true--
I am saying simple prayers for you.
