A verse in the book of Psalms begins: "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God." Psalms 90:2.

In my language's (Shona, a bantu language of southern part of africa) translation, the English literal of the words used is: "Before everything was created; mountains and the plains (land or earth), You were there, you live forever and ever". Now, in my country and probably church, the United Methodist Church, the words to this Psalm were used in a song.

Whenever this song is sung, i remember in our young age, the church used to always be lifted, relieved because of the immense message brought about in relation to both the highs (i.e. the "mountains") and the lows (i.e. the "plains") the people would have been with God. The stumbling blocks (i.e. the "mountains") and the straightaways of favor (i.e. the "plains"). They would reflect on the big (i.e. the "mountains") and the plain (i.e. the "plains") structures that they would have been with God...it surely was awe over this God's everlasting presence, unwavering loving presence, its kindness!

Now the same song is sung, many years have passed by; the translation even meaning more because the presence, love and grace has even grown in terms of how we behold his steadfastness, the grace, power to love, being kind and graceful to us: i can only say a few words.

Through my struggles: He has loved me, and i have seen His kindness to that i get confidence to love Him more.

Through my personal success: He has been faithful, neither to shame nor boast about His contribution, only after a string of successes, do i get to realize "Oh, its been Him all along! My Word!".

What a God He is, because He is not moved by the mountains and the plains, He was there before us and them, it is not suprising how i love Him too steadfastly.
