A POSITION CALLED POSITIVE
I want to share a few thoughts with you about a position called positive. I am not referring to a “physical” position but a mental position – a state of mind. Often, I counsel with people who immediately start the dialogue by addressing every situation as a negative one. I understand the reason they come to me is that they need someone to listen and be genuinely concerned about their issue(s).

One of my goals is to encourage them to look for and find a positive aspect about their situation. I believe it is possible to look at a negative situation from a positive perspective. No, it doesn’t change the fact that you are dealing with a difficult and trying situation, but it does affect the way you approach it and view it. Your negative situation can be an “opportunity to overcome” if you can find something (anything) you can do to either make it better or learn something as you go through it.

What you learn as you go through your situation can be a help to you and others. I do want to emphasize again that I am by no means trying to make the problem something trivial or unimportant. Problems are real. Opportunities to overcome are also real. I am encouraging you to remain positive as you go through various situations. By the way, whatever words of encouragement I give to others, I apply to myself first. I also must “walk the talk.”
