Faith
I wanted to share something that happened to me years ago that touched my heart and I hope it touches yours.
A nice looking hospice nurse walks into the furniture store where I was working and bought a sofa & loveseat for her home. After writing up the sale and setting delivery for her she looked at me and said..."There's something about you, kind of like a shine, are you a Christian?"
I said... "Yes I am." She said..."So am I.. but I have a serious problem."
She said she was taking care of a terminally ill AIDS patient who was a homosexual and only had days, maybe hours to live. She said that she had called around to several churches to ask if someone would come and give last rites to her patient and pray with him. Nobody would respond, and some even said that because this man was a homosexual that they would not go and pray for him. Some had told her because he was a Jew they wouldn't come. But mostly none would come because they were afraid of getting AIDS.
I said, That's ridiculous, my bible teaches me that no deadly thing shall harm me, not in service for the Lord,,,,and that ALL deserve a chance for that final prayer.
She then asked me if I would come by and pray for him, and I said "of course but I don't get off till 9 pm." She said, Oh thank you, I am so grateful, and after 9 pm is fine, but please be there for he may not last through the night."
She gave me directions and after I got off, I drove over there. Upon entering the house (very nice old ridge crest area home) I was led to the bed side of what I can only describe as a concentration camp type of a skeletal man about to leave this world.
I grabbed his hand in mine and told him I was a child of God and that God had sent me to help him get things right between him and God. It was all he could do to squeeze my hand and my heart broke wide open for this man. I told him the story of Yeshua his savior and how he was the fulfillment of all the prophecies in the old testament. I told him that if he was willing to ask Yeshua to come into his heart that he would be forgiven of all his sins and enter eternity to be with the one true Messiah forever. Because he could only squeeze my hand I asked him if he believed what I was telling him to squeeze my hand just once.... He did.
I then asked him if he wanted to accept Yeshua as his lord and savior to squeeze again once...He did. I said, "then by the authority and power of God vested in me, you shall see God forever. Do you believe this?" He squeezed my hand one last time. Tears welled up in my eyes and I continued praying over him awhile more.
I stood up by his bed side,,, squeezed his hand and leaned over and kissed him on the forehead and said,..."I'll see you again someday my brother." The nurse gave me a big hug and thanked me again for coming. I left that home thinking, "Thank you Lord for allowing me to help someone in dire need, I am so very humbled."
This man died a few days later but I will never forget that God thought enough of lil ole' no count-for nothing me,... to be the one to serve Him in this man's final hours.
I can only say this about those who were scared of the AIDS or indignant that this man was a homosexual........"You missed a golden opportunity to show your faith, to serve our Lord for any soul, and may God forgive you is my prayer."
