Sleepless Hotel Nights

“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’” Mark 16:15 ESV

I lay in the dark in a strange hotel room. I can’t sleep and my mind drifts on random thoughts. I know I should sleep because we have a big day ahead of us at a theme park. But my mind continues to wander.

How many people have laid in this same bed that I am in right now? Or how many people have used the remote on the table to turn on the TV? How many others have pulled out the Bible from the desk drawer to read?

It amazes me to think of the many individuals and families that have stayed in this exact hotel room. People from all different walks of life. I’m sure there have been doctors, teachers, healthcare workers, sales clerks, and landscapers, to name a few, that have been exactly where I am tonight. Certainly some of those people were from other countries. Surely some of those people were happy and some were sad. No doubt some of those people needed Jesus.

These random thoughts prompt me to remember Scripture from Mark reminding us of the great commission- go everywhere and tell others about Jesus. Tell people about your personal encounter with Jesus Christ and the hope you have now through Him. Be a witness for Him in the way you live your life from day to day and even on those special occasions when you travel on vacation to Florida with your family. There are so many people who still need to hear the Good News. Live your life in a way that points others to Jesus. You could possibly be the only Jesus they may ever see.

The people who have stayed in this same hotel room were here only temporarily, whether for business or pleasure. However, wouldn’t it be wonderful if those same people assuredly would have a permanent home in Heaven with you and me? The only way to encourage this is by sharing the Gospel with others. With God’s help, you can make a difference for the Kingdom of God.
