When Jesus was baptized in the river of Jordan, "the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him. And a voice from heaven, said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:16-17). This was the voice of a proud Father expressing His pleasure in the life of His son.

When our children behave themselves and do well in their endeavors, it makes us smile and proud. We then are moved by our excitement, to give them anything they ask, just because they made us feel good, by the good they were doing.

As parents reward their children when they do as they are told, and when they do well in their endeavors, God by His grace and mercy, will grant unto His children whatever we ask, that is in accordance with what He promised, or even better than we expected, when we obey his word, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight - "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight" (I John 3:22).

It causes his face to shine upon you with favor, that he will open the treasures of heaven and  ask you, as he did with Solomon in a dream, "Ask what I shall give you" (I Kings 3:5) - whatever you want, you got it.

It's not that we earned the right to be given what we asked, but because we live such a life that is pleasing unto God, it gives us hope that He will answer our prayers. And by this, our confidence is strengthened as we approach Him with our requests.
