Be In Good Health

Good health is something a lot of us take for granted, until we start to lose it. God cares not only about our souls, but also about our bodies. The body is a temple of the Holy Ghost, and should not be defiled by sin which destroys the soul, or foods which can destroy the physical body - "What? know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Corinthians 6:19-20). And even if the foods you eat are good, too much of it can be hurtful to your body - "Have you found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for you, for it is not good to eat much honey…" (Proverbs 25:16a, Proverbs 25:27a).

Within the pages of the bible, God reveals many basic principles for good physical, mental, and spiritual health. But, the choice to follow His prescription and reap the benefits is yours to make - "My son, forget not my law, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days, and long life, and peace shall they add to you…It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones" (Proverbs 3:1-2, 8).

If you choose not to take care of your health, you will not be able to function properly. And, how can you glorify God in your body, if your body is not in good health from both the defilement of sin, or foods that are destroying it?

Take care of your body and be in good health. Eat the right foods that will keep your body functioning right, along with light movements or exercises of the body as prescribed by your doctor, which in return will keep your mind, body and soul vibrate, ready to work and ready to produce results.

While a balanced approach to being healthy and fit is what believers in Christ should pursue, make sure your motives are pure. Your motive for taking care of your body should not be to bring attention to yourself, or to gain praises from others, but rather to be healthy and fit for the service of God.
