“Kuk is ting!!!” Ahh, out of the mouths of babes. I taught this little girl to say this when she was just learning to talk. I say, teach them young.
Oh, by the way, the translation is “Chuck is King!!!”. Yep, that’s right. King. Many scoffed when they heard her say this and many just down right laughed. But, alas, it is true. I am King. King of forgetfulness. The maestro of memory loss. Captain of “Why am I here and who are all these people?”
Sure, it’s an honor to hold this position, but every now and again I accidentally let a memory in. Usually this happens at midnight or some other inopportune time, say as my car is sputtering its last dying gasp on the side of the road. Then it hits me…gas. I needed gas. Why didn’t this occur to me when I was stopped at Jimbo’s Gas and Grub picking up a cold drink and some pork skins?
Now, I haven’t run out of gas in years, thanks to the convenient light on my dashboard, which screams, “IF YOU DON’T GET GAS YOU ARE GOING TO BE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD YOU IDIOT!!!!!” I know the light really doesn’t scream, but it sure seems like it does. As a matter of fact, there are many reminders for forgetful people like me on vehicles now days. Low fuel, door ajar, washer fluid low, O2 sensor, brake lights out, and that truly aggravating CHECK ENGINE light. All designed for people like me. A constant reminder to take care of the problem. Every time you go some where it is right in front of you saying the problem is still there and is not going to go away. Your own personal nag, if you will.
A constant reminder. It is much easier to remember things when we see it before us all the time. Such as the word of God. Many people post scripture on their refrigerator, or on their bathroom mirror. These are places that are frequented a lot, sometimes too much, but that is another topic. The idea is that they will be reminded of God’s word many times during the day and that eventually it will stick with them. Prayer lists, gospel radio, recorded sermons, and the lists go on. Anything that will keep the word of God on their minds. Often, we will forget our purpose here if we aren’t reminded often.
Assembling ourselves together in the Lord’s house is another good reminder. Studying the Bible daily, seeking Holy Spirit leadership constantly, etc.
Are you forgetful when it comes to the work of the Lord? Try placing reminders where you can see them throughout your day. It’s amazing how much can be accomplished when we just remember to do it.
