One of the virtues every Christian should possess is faith. In fact, it is on the basis of faith that this lifestyle is established. A Christian without a living faith is yet to live. Hebrews 11:1 defines this virtue as the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for and to be certain of the things we cannot see.

Our challenge with faith begins from this point: to see things from 'unrealistic' point of view. Many say faith opposes the laws of reality, it seems to be an abstract concept, or that faith is for the matured mind. On the contrary, faith is the most real thing that ever exists. Why? Because the entire world we see today- the hills and the valley, the vegetation, the great lights in the sky, the animals that course the waters, air and land- are products of faith. When God was creating the heaven and the earth, He demonstrated what faith was. He commanded into existence what never existed (Genesis 1:3, Romans 4:17).

Faith may be described as a living faith when it does not have to depend on a reason. After God's illustration of faith at creation, Abraham also demonstrated it. He was a mere mortal like us, yet believed in promises even when there was no reason to do so (Romans 4:18, GNB). He was willing to trust God forever on a matter. His faith had no time frame, or expiry date. As he advanced in age, his faith did not grow weak. A living faith is timeless!

"...his faith filled him with power, and he gave praise to God." (Romans 4:20, GNB). A living faith empowers a man! Faith enables a man to do what is naturally impossible. Consider the heroes and heroines in Hebrews 11, their exploits were beyond the ordinary. Perhaps the reason why we are not seeing many miracles in our generation is that many of us live on 'dead' faith. A man of faith is a man of power!

What is your state of faith? Living, dead or chronically sick? God is moved to action by a living faith. A living faith is one that trusts God for who He is and what He can do.
