   When I woke one day recently I felt slightly out of sorts (it happens sometimes especially if I stayed up too late the night before). After reading and discussing a daily devotional with my wife, which is our customary practice, I felt no improvement, though we weren't doing it to feel better. But after we praised God and prayed together I found myself feeling fine. Imagine that!

 It was when my chair became His altar that my health and vitality returned, without my quite realizing the actual moment of its return, if there was such a moment. Maybe it happened gradually, moment by moment. But however it came about,  it led me to the conclusion that life away from His altar is, for me,  sick life, even if I'm feeling no symptoms of sickness. Simply put, my life outside of God's Presence is summed up by sickness. Actually, it is no life at all but mere existence.  

This isn't to say, however,  that everyone who is sick is outside of God's presence.  God forbid!  Many who are sick experience the oasis of God's presence and grace as a consolation right in the midst of their sicknesses!
