Everyone has times in their lives when everything seems to go wrong. Kids get sick, the car breaks down, you lose your job, and you may wish that the world would stop and let you off. You complain to anyone that will listen, and you may even be mad at God because you feel He is not answering your prayers for help.

It’s easy to complain about our problems, but how could we turn our attitude around? The Bible instructs us to dwell on positive things. Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

What is going right in your life? You may need to dig deep if you have had a number of setbacks, so start with the basics. You woke up today and have a whole day to learn and create new possibilities for spiritual growth in your life. Chances are that you’re not living under the bridge, so be thankful that you have a warm home or apartment to live in.

As you contemplate what’s going right in your life, you’ll see how blessed you really are. Let me share an exercise with you that helps me remember what’s going right in my life. At the end of each day, I take out a piece of paper and list 3 good things that happened during the day. Once I start, my list expands as I remember even more good things.

If you have problems, and just can’t think of anything that is going right, pray to God for help. Proverbs 3: 5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
